Ian Fleming Stamp Set
To celebrate the life of James Bond’s creator, Ian Fleming, the Guernsey Post have produced a set of Alderney stamps, 50 years following his death on August 12, 1964. This project was briefed into the studio at Two Degrees North about a year ago and we were very excited at the prospect of designing set of stamps to honour such a famous British writer. Beginning with meticulous research of Ian Fleming's life, we collated a list of noteworthy moments and paired them with visually exciting images to set the tone of the collection. Then, with a nod to James Bond, we introduced the gold foil details and price-point typography similar to 007. The layout of the stamps, typewriter font and slide frames on the selvedge sheets are references to era the author lived in, and the different backgrounds of the selvedge sheets set the theme of the given stamp without overpowering the main image. To add to our excitement, we were told the miniature sheet which we designed to depict Ian Fleming behind the wheel of a Blower Bentley, was to be produced in a limited edition 24 carat gold version and sealed in acrylic crystal. It has been a pleasure to work with the Guernsey Post on this stamp set and we are so pleased to see the issue released for sale last month.
