Some months ago we were commissioned by Guernsey Post to design a set of stamps commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the Guernsey Post Philatelic Bureau. We discovered, by some good fortune, that Doric Sarre, the Grandfather of our designer Chloe, had a complete collection of every stamp produced since the Guernsey Philatelic Bureau was set up and we decided to showcase Doric's collection and also celebrate those who take pride in collecting stamps and of course it only seemed right that Chloe should undertake the lead design role on the project. Historically there have been one or two examples of showing a stamp within a stamp but we wanted to really push this even further, showing several stamps on each stamp and do so through the set of six in chronological date order. There are several special print finishes used, such as foiling, spot UV and embossing, which are incorporated into the design which uses a magnifying glass to create the number 50. We think the final result is a great celebration of 50 years.
