First Annual Bean Jar Jamboree
This first Annual Bean Jar Jamboree held on Saturday was heralded as a great success. Of course the weather was on our side, but the real success was that so many people came along to Fairfield in Castel to join us on and that so many of Guernsey’s local producers held stalls to showcase their amazing food and drink. Some gorgeous crafts were also on show, including Niall McCarthy’s ceramic Hand Made Bean Jars. Entertainment was also provided, including live music from The Space Pirates of Rocquaine and the School of Popular Music, Face Painting, Pumpkin carving, wood carving and even a turkey to visit!
The Bean Jar Competition gained a lot of interest during the afternoon with over 20 entries. There were many varied and tasty local bean jar recipes entered. A Bean jar filled pasty was also included and tasted so delicious that it had to be commended and offered to the public to try. After much debate the tasting panel were very pleased to announce the winner as Lisa Moullin.
TwoDegreesNorth, 100%GSY and Edible Guernsey look forward to holding the event again next year and we hope this first Bean Jar Jamboree gave you the perfect opportunity to sample some of the best locally produced food, drink and crafts that Guernsey has on offer. We’re sure it has whet your appetite for buying more local produce too. We would like to say a final final thank you to anyone who made a donation to Edible Guernsey on the day.
